The city of Tancítaro in Michoacán, Mexico, recently achieved a Guinness World Record by preparing the largest serving of guacamole, weighing a staggering 7.2 tonnes. This impressive feat involved 800 volunteers, including students and staff from the College of Scientific and Technological Studies of Michoacán (Cecytem). The participants worked together for about two and a half hours, mashing fresh avocados and mixing them with other ingredients.

The event took place during the 13th Avocado Fair, a celebration that brings together avocado producers, buyers, and the general public. The final weight of the guacamole, excluding the container, was recorded at 6.8 tonnes. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by the municipality of Peribán, another significant avocado producer in Michoacán.

Principal Luis Enrique Toscano Servín of Cecytem highlighted the dedication and teamwork displayed by the students and staff. He expressed pride in the community’s effort and the strong sense of identity shown by Tancítaro’s residents. In addition to avocados, the guacamole required large quantities of onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and lime juice.

After the record was confirmed, attendees at the fair had the opportunity to taste the monumental guacamole served on tostadas, marking a historic achievement for Tancítaro and enhancing Mexico’s culinary reputation. Tancítaro, known as the “avocado capital,” consistently leads in avocado exports, contributing about 30% of Michoacán’s total.
