Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump talked about trade with Mexico. He said the United States doesn’t need much from Mexico, except for things like “tamales” (a traditional Mexican dish) and “tomatoes”. However, this isn’t quite true. Mexico sends a lot of important goods to the U.S., like vehicles, machinery, medical devices and fresh food. In fact, in just one month, Mexico exported over $60 billion worth of goods to the U.S.
President Trump also mentioned that he wouldn’t stop trading with Mexico because he respects Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum. Even though he said the U.S. could stop trading with countries if it wanted, he doesn’t plan to do this with Mexico. The U.S. and Mexico are important trade partners, which means they buy and sell a lot from each other.
There was also talk about the USMCA, a trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Trade agreements help countries work together to exchange goods easily. Even though President Trump has his opinions, trade between the U.S. and Mexico is very strong and important for both countries.
