A 17-year-old girl from Tamaulipas, Mexico, named Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández, has created a special fire extinguisher. Unlike regular ones that use water or chemicals, her device uses sound to put out small fires. She worked on this project for a year with her uncle, José Arturo Hernández Muñoz. They called their invention Vortex Tech.
Ángela is showcasing her invention at the International Science and Invention Fair in Indonesia. Her school, CETis 78, is very proud of her achievement. She got the idea after seeing a video of a large sonic cannon (a device that uses sound) putting out a fire. This inspired her to make a smaller version.
Her invention uses a 12-volt battery, a frequency generator, an amplifier and a speaker. It creates swirling air that stops a fire from finding oxygen, which it needs to burn. Although Vortex Tech is just for small fires right now, it’s a great start.
The project also has sensors to detect fires and start the extinguisher automatically. Ángela worked hard to qualify for the fair and has support from her school and the state’s education officials.
