In Mexico, some people are not getting the fish they think they are buying. A study by a group called Oceana found that 38% of fish sold in the biggest Mexican cities are not what they say they are. This means that out of 10 fish, about four are the wrong ones! Sometimes, cheaper fish are given instead of the fish people wanted, which can be a big surprise.

For example, people thought they were buying sailfish, but it was always a different fish. In some places, like Los Cabos, the problem is even bigger, with 60% of fish being incorrectly mislabeled. When this happens, it can hurt people’s wallets because they pay more for the wrong fish. It also makes it hard for honest fishers to sell their fish.

To fix this, Oceana suggests that each fish should be tracked from when it’s caught until it’s sold. This way, everyone knows exactly what they are buying, and it helps protect sea creatures and the people who catch them.
