Mexico Sends Food to Help Cuba – Level 1

Keyword Description
Humanitarian aid Help provided to people in need, like food and supplies.
Blackout A period when electricity is not available.
Solidarity Support and unity shown to others in difficult times.

Mexico has sent a large amount of food to Cuba to help them during tough times. Cuba is a country having trouble with not enough fuel and food, and often losing power. Two big ships from the Mexican Navy left from a city called Veracruz with almost 1,200 tonnes of food. It will take them four days to reach Cuba. The ships are carrying beans, powdered milk, and other foods given by different groups. This help is being sent because the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, wants to support Cuba, a nearby island.

People in Cuba are finding it hard to get enough to eat and have other problems because of power cuts. Many people only eat once a day, and some can’t find enough food at all. Schools and hospitals are affected, too. The United States had put some rules in place that made it harder for Cuba to get oil. But now, things might change because a court said these rules should stop. Mexico is trying to help by sending food, showing friendship and care for their neighbors.
