| Import | Bringing goods into a country from abroad. |
Did you know that Mexico is now the United States’ top trade partner? In the first part of 2026, Mexico exported products to the U.S., worth about $86.82 billion! This means more of the things Americans buy are from Mexico. Even though the U.S. is buying less overall from other countries, they are buying more from Mexico.
Mexico’s share of the U.S. import market went up, while countries like Canada and China saw their shares go down. Canada sold fewer goods to the U.S., and China’s sales dropped a lot too. Mexico’s close trading relationship with the U.S. is helped by a special agreement called USMCA, which makes it easier for them to trade.
Other countries in Asia, like Taiwan and Vietnam, are also selling more to the U.S. This is partly because of a trade war between the U.S. and China. Taiwan sold the U.S. a lot more goods, especially important parts for computers. This shows how trade between countries can change quickly and affect what people in different countries buy and sell.
