| Cartel | A group involved in illegal activities, like selling drugs. |
| Coalition | A group of countries or people working together for a common goal. |
| Summit | A meeting of leaders to discuss important topics. |
Recently, a group of countries in the Americas decided to team up to stop dangerous cartels. This team is called the “Americas Counter Cartel Coalition” or ACCC. The United States, along with countries like Argentina and Peru, are part of this team. But, Mexico is not part of it, even though it is close to the U.S. and has its own problems with cartels.
President Donald Trump says that cartels are a big problem and the ACCC wants to use military power to stop them. However, Mexico has its own agreement with the U.S. and prefers to handle things differently. Mexico’s leader, Claudia Sheinbaum, wants to solve the problem without using military force. She believes it’s important for Mexico to manage its own cartels.
Some other countries, like Brazil, also didn’t join the ACCC. They have different ideas about how to tackle the cartel problem. While the ACCC wants to use strong actions, Mexico and others want to focus on working together in different ways.
