A new airplane route will connect Bajío International Airport in Guanajuato with Madrid, the capital of Spain. The governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García, announced that the airline Air Europa will fly directly between these two places, without stops in other cities. The exact start date and how many times a week the plane will fly are not decided yet, but the idea is to begin this year. With this flight, it will be easier for people from Europe to visit Guanajuato and get to know its culture, food and cities.
The government believes this new route will help many people in Guanajuato. More tourists can mean more work for hotels, restaurants and other local businesses near the airport and in the cities. The governor said that this agreement was achieved by visiting Spain, talking to people at the big tourism fair FITUR and showing that Guanajuato has its own identity and a lot of heart. The state also signed an agreement with the Spanish region Castilla‑La Mancha so that both places can share culture and visitors.
