Lando Norris wins big in Mexico City’s Formula 1 Grand Prix – Level 3

Keyword Description
Grand Prix  An important racing event in Formula 1
Constructors’ Championship  A competition between teams in Formula 1, not just the drivers
Teammate  Someone who is on the same team as another competitor

Lando Norris, a British Formula 1 driver, celebrated a huge victory in Mexico City by winning the Grand Prix at the famous Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Around 150,000 fans watched Norris take the lead from the very start, defending his top spot and eventually finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of his closest competitors. After a fast and intense beginning where four other cars tried to pass Norris, he pulled away and stayed comfortably in front until the end of the race.

Norris completed the race in under one hour and forty minutes, surpassing Ferrari’s Charles LeClerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who had won the previous four championships. Norris joined an elite group of drivers who have won in Mexico City, such as Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, and Carlos Sainz Jr. This win was especially important, earning Norris 25 points and boosting him to the top of the season standings, just ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri and putting him far ahead of Verstappen.

The race didn’t just highlight Norris’s skills — it also showed McLaren’s dominance. The team has already won the Constructors’ Championship for the second year in a row, and with this victory, they now have a massive lead over Ferrari. With Norris’s points and Piastri finishing fifth, McLaren has proven to be the strongest team this season.

Max Verstappen, who finished third, also made headlines off the track. During the drivers' parade, Verstappen thanked his former teammate, Mexican driver Checo Pérez, and said he was glad Checo would race in F1 next year. Their relationship has not always been smooth, especially when Pérez felt the team favored Verstappen. Pérez was let go at the end of last season, but Verstappen showed respect for the Mexican fans and his former teammate.
