Three teenagers from Chihuahua, Mexico, won first place at the 2025 World Robot Contest held in Beijing, China, from August 8 to 12. They competed against many other students from around the world in one of the biggest robotics competitions. Their winning project was part of the "DOBOT Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge — Moon Landing Challenge," where they designed, programmed, and built robotic arms that could simulate a moon landing.
This achievement is really special not just for Chihuahua but for all of Mexico. The state government said it shows how talent combined with vision, hard work, and teamwork can achieve amazing innovation. The students got support from the Chihuahua STEM Council, which helps young people learn and grow in science, technology, engineering, and math fields (STEM). They encourage students to enter global contests like this one.
The Mexican Education Ministry praised the students, calling their win a proud moment for Mexico that shines on the world stage.
The winning team included Karina Jaired Castellanos Hernández, Gabriel Enrique Ojeda Carrillo, and Luis Fernando Quintana Ríos. Their coaches and engineers guided them throughout the process. They also got help from the Ibero-American STEM Academy, a nonprofit group that supports technology education in Latin America.
This victory strengthens Chihuahua’s reputation as a leader in robotics in Mexico. Exports of commercial robots from Mexico reached $1.15 million in the first half of this year, with Chihuahua making up most of those sales. The World Robot Contest is a huge event, attracting over 100,000 contestants from more than 20 countries since it started in 2015. It is held during the World Robotics Conference in China, which many call the Olympics of robotics.
