In Mexico City, the night sky is bright because there are too many lights from buildings, streets, and advertisements. This extra light blocks our view of the stars, so kids and adults can't see the Milky Way or enjoy a dark sky. This problem is called light pollution. Light pollution also makes it hard for scientists to study the sky and can bother animals and people by messing up their sleep.
The government made new rules to try to stop so much useless lighting outside, but there is still too much light in the city. Now, many young people have never seen a truly starry sky and may need to travel far away to see stars. If we don't fix light pollution, it will always be hard to see stars in big cities.
