Some tacos have really strange names, but they are still super yummy. One is called the envenenado taco, which means “poisoned,” but don’t worry, it’s not really dangerous! It was invented in Zacatecas by a man named Don Lauro. He joked that eating his tacos was like being poisoned, but people loved them because they were filled with tasty things like beans, potatoes and chorizo fried in pork fat.
Another taco is the sudado taco, which means “sweaty.” “Sweaty” describes how the taco gets moist when the tortilla is dipped in hot oil, then filled and kept in baskets. These tacos come from old miners who needed simple, warm food.
There’s also the basura taco, which means “garbage.” It’s not made with real trash! It has lots of different meats, potatoes, and even eggs all mixed together. Even though the name sounds bad, people love eating it because it’s so filling.
So, just because a taco has a funny name, it doesn’t mean it tastes bad. Sometimes, the funniest names hide the yummiest food!
