Romeritos A green plant used in a Christmas stew
Gift Something you give to someone to make them happy, especially on holidays or special days

Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, will spend Christmas in the beach city of Acapulco from December 25 to 27. Acapulco was hit by a very strong hurricane called Otis in 2023, and many houses, hotels, and streets were destroyed. By going there for Christmas, the president wants to show the people of Acapulco that they are important and that the country remembers them. She said that her usual morning talks with reporters will stop for a few days so everyone can rest for the holidays.

The president also said she will eat a traditional Mexican Christmas dish called romeritos, made with a special plant, mole, and potatoes, which she really likes. Even though she is on vacation, she will still pay attention to what happens in the state of Guerrero and to big events where many people get together. She also explained that there are no special holiday houses just for the president anymore; those places now belong to the army or the navy. At the end of one of her talks, she asked everyone to sing “Feliz Navidad” and wished that Santa Claus would bring many gifts to all the children in Mexico.
